BBC News joined the Chorley and District Amateur Radio Society as they put on a special “Castles and Stately Homes On The Air (CASHOTA)” event at Astley Hall, a Grade I listed house in Lancashire.

NOV Update …. the NOV application for the ‘V’ Prefix is now available to apply for online (see link below) although it cannot be used until the 5th of July.
It was announced in the RSGB magazine that all UK radio amateurs will be able to apply to use the special V prefix, such as GV, MV and 2V starting July 5th, 2013, until the end of the month of July.
These special prefixes will be used to celebrate 100th anniversary of the
Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB).
Further details on this will be announced nearer to the time of the event.
2013 World Amateur Radio Day — April 18 — Celebrates 100 Years of Disaster Communications
This year marks the 88th anniversary of the founding of the International Amateur Radio Union (IARU). To mark this occasion, the IARU and its more than 160 Member Societies will celebrate World Amateur Radio Day on April 18. For many years, the IARU Administrative Council has declared a theme for each World Amateur Radio Day. The theme for 2013 is Amateur Radio: Entering Its Second Century of Disaster Communications.
